Critical Reviews
Identifying simple shapes (circles, squares) and more advanced ones (rhombuses, trapezoids), this title centers on real objects from two of the most popular Smithsonian museums, the National Museum of Natural History and the National Air and Space Museum. Though the pairing may seem unusual at first, it is difficult to doubt that aircraft, gems, and ancient animals are compelling and add interest to a discipline that kids aren't always eager to pursue. Labeled photos of museum exhibits highlight cubes, cones, cylinders, trapezoids, and more, while digital cartoon museum visitors occasionally overlay the dazzling photos. Back matter includes a geometry glossary and a surprise search-and-find activity that challenges readers to find stars hidden in all the book's photos (no helpful outlines this time!). A high-interest entry in the concept-based Smithsonian Museum Fun! series (4 titles).--Deidre Winterhalter "Booklist"
