USA Today Most Anticipated Read of Summer 2025
Publishers Weekly Most Anticipated Book of Summer 2025 From the beloved New York Times bestselling author Adriana Trigiani, a "dazzling" storyteller (Washington Post), and a "comedy writer with a heart of gold" (NYT), comes a novel about one woman's quest to build her own life before it's too late.
Jess Capodimonte Baratta is not living the life of her dreams. Not even close. In blue-collar Lake Como, New Jersey, family comes first. Recently divorced from Bobby Bilancia, "the perfect husband," Jess moves into her parents' basement to hide and heal. Jess is the overlooked daughter, who dutifully takes care of her parents, cooks Sunday dinner, and puts herself last. Despite her role as the family handmaiden, Jess is also a talented draftswoman in the marble business run by her dapper uncle Louie, who believes she can do anything (once she invests in a better wardrobe). When the Capodimonte and Baratta families endure an unexpected loss, the shock unearths long-buried secrets that will force Jess to question her loyalty to those she trusted. Fueled by her lost dreams, Jess takes fate into her own hands and escapes to her ancestral home, Carrara, Italy. From the shadows of the majestic marble-capped mountains of Tuscany, to the glittering streets of Milan, and on the shores of enchanting Lake Como (the other one), Jess begins to carve a place in this new/old world. When she meets Angelo Strazza, a passionate artist who works in gold, she discovers her own skills are priceless. But as Jess uncovers the truth about her family history, it will change the course of her life and those she loves the most forever. In love and work, in art and soul, Jess will need every tool she has mastered to reinvent her life. Fed by the author's cherished Italian roots comes a bighearted, hilarious novel of the moment: the story of one woman's determination to live a creative life that matters, with enough room left over for love. With a one-way ticket to Italy, Jess is determined to write a new story on her own terms--this time, in stone. -

Leveling the Ice: Confronting Racism in Hockey
A deep dive into the institutional racism and prejudice in the sport of hockey that persists across all levels - and how it will impact the future of the sport While professional sports leagues claim to promote diversity and inclusivity, institutional racism remains apparent in all sports, but especially hockey. In Leveling the Ice, sportswriter Steven Sandor challenges the perception that hockey is open to everyone and the idea that the hockey establishment wants more inclusion and diversity. Featuring interviews with NHL players of color like Darnell Nurse, Matt Dumba, Nazeem Kadri, Zach Whitecloud, Ethan Bear, Jason Robertson, Sandor reveals their stories of exclusion to highlight the deeply ingrained racism in the sport. The players share insights into the racism they faced while they built their careers as well as the racism, they still face today from the hockey establishment From hockey's racist past to the ongoing reluctance of the hockey establishment to embrace grassroots diversity initiatives, Sandor delves into how members of communities of color (who only make up 5% of the NHL) are being driven away from the sport to more inclusive ones like soccer and basketball, despite the NHL's expansion to new markets and demographics with billion-dollar TV deals. Comprehensive and timely, Leveling the Ice grapples with how the institutional racism in hockey will directly affect the future of the sport. -

Banjo
Banjo is a heartfelt and humorous story about an injured calf that was rescued and nursed back to health after having its hurt leg amputated. The calf earned the name Banjo, and although he was involved in many hilarious events-such as pulling our television out of the living room window-God allowed him to live his life as a pet to my family. From Banjo, we learned joy, empathy, and humor: "What a wonderful way for my brothers and me to learn that a disability may make you different, but the heart of a being is what makes you lovable."
As a hardworking little farm girl, I was reluctant to share my life stories with my classmates, but "the things that I was so afraid to speak about due to my youthful insecurities now make me feel proud and intent to share." Just like my students, may you enjoy some of the adventures we had with our three-legged calf named Banjo.

Champagne & HashBrowns
What happens when the person who's always held everything together finally lets themselves fall apart?
And who do you become when surviving is no longer enough?
Sharon Somerville Boyes-a nonprofit leader and Shakespearean scholar with grunge-glam edges and a rock-and-roll soul-invites readers to peek behind the polished exterior she spent a lifetime perfecting.
Champagne & HashBrowns is a powerful memoir of resilience and reinvention for anyone who's held everything together-until they couldn't. With raw honesty and wry insight, Sharon explores trauma, burnout, and self-trust, proving it's never too late to rebuild a life rooted in authenticity.
Part memoir, part manifesto, the book speaks to anyone who has ever carried too much, cared too hard, or forgotten where they fit in their own story. Sharon pulls back the curtain on the traumas that (re)shaped her family, the compassion fatigue that hollowed her spirit, and the years spent chasing the bright and shiny while ignoring the rusted signs pointing to what needed healing.
Along the way, she uncovers her Champagne & HashBrowns truth: joy and grit can coexist, and a life rebuilt with authenticity tastes better than the one that came before.
This book is for you if you've ever looked steady on the outside while falling apart on the inside.
If you've ever given more than you had.
If you've ever outgrown a version of yourself that once felt safe.
Hopeful, grounded, and defiantly human, Champagne & HashBrowns is a reminder that reinvention is possible at any age-and that sometimes the most powerful revolution begins with finally paying attention to the signs you've been avoiding.

Policing the Progressive City: Portland, Oregon, from Settlement to Uprising
The dangers of "progressive policing" as told through a study of Portland, Oregon.
Policing the Progressive City tells the story of how Portland's "law and order" has been shaped for over two hundred years by business interests, political climbers, and social campaigners--as well as its history of mass resistance to police brutality. With meticulous research and expert storytelling, Kristian Williams exposes how the city's progressive veneer enables its police to weather scandals, co-opt critics, and refurbish its reputation through carefully limited reforms. Time and again, the record reveals the Portland Police Bureau's legacy of racism, violence, and exploitation, even in one of America's most loudly liberal environments.
