Critical Reviews
This book beautifully describes several celebrations from various cultures around the world. It aligns with the Gregorian calendar year, going from January to December, beginning and ending with a New Year's celebration. Readers will see more familiar holidays, including Halloween and Thanksgiving, as well as some potentially lesser-known celebrations, such as Midsummer's Day and Matariki. Each holiday gets its own spread that also includes how it is celebrated by children from that culture. Simple and fun eye-catching illustrations give readers a sense of what each celebration is like. This title is geared toward younger readers, who will appreciate seeing the illustrations and reading the descriptions of the fun celebrations. A time line in the front lists each holiday and when it is celebrated, while back matter describes each holiday in more detail. VERDICT A fun addition to nonfiction areas about celebrations in parts all over the world.--Kristin Joy Anderson, School Library Journal
