Description

When a family friend asks to have her mehndi party at Divya's family's restaurant, Divya knows just how to decorate to make the party truly magical. But the adults are all busy planning the menu, and no one will listen to Divya's ideas. Divya decides to prove that she is responsible enough to contribute to the party by making a batch of her favorite sweet, ladoo, all by herself. Will she prove herself to her family, or will her plan be a total disaster?

Critical Reviews

Divya, the bubbly, precocious fourth grader who moved across the world in series opener Divya Far from Home, is back in this charming sequel. Although she still misses New Delhi and especially her Nani, Divya has now embraced life with her close-knit extended family above their restaurant, Delhi Delights. When their Most Important Customer, Ms. Simran, decides to host her wedding's mehndi party at the restaurant, Divya is bursting with ideas to make it special, but none of the adults seem to listen. A fundraiser for her class gives Divya another opportunity to showcase her trademark checklists and leadership skills, but will she be able to put it all together? Charming illustrations perfectly capture Divya's exuberance, the warmth of her family, and the diversity of her classmates. Conflicts centering Divya's ability to ask for help and listen to others are gently presented, allowing the story to showcase her growth as well as celebrate her inherent confidence and organization skills. Back matter includes a glossary and discussion questions. VERDICT A first purchase for elementary school libraries.-- "School Library Journal"
