About the Author
Mary Kay Carson is the author of more than fifty nonfiction books for young people. She's written several titles in HMH's acclaimed Scientists in the Field series, including Park Scientists: Gila Monsters, Geysers, and Grizzly Bears in America's Own Backyard and The Bat Scientists, an ALA's 2011 Notable Children's Books for Middle Readers. She lives in Cincinnati, Ohio, with her photographer husband Tom Uhlman.
John D. Dawson has created art spanning over four decades, from early years in advertising art to freelance work for the US Postal Service, National Park Service, United Nations, National Wildlife Federation, National Geographic Society, the Audubon Society, and the Golden Guide books. He and his wife Kathleen have lived on the Big Island of Hawaii since 1989.
