Description

Woodstake

A blood-soaked mashup of vampire myth, rock history, and the counterculture of the late 1960s

Woodstake is a wickedly clever spin on the Dracula legend, reimagined against the backdrop of the iconic Woodstock festival of 1969. When a vampire descends on the summer of love, a generation of hippies is forced to survive three days of peace, music, and blood in this darkly funny, genre-bending thrill ride. A razor-sharp blend of satire, horror, and '60s nostalgia, Woodstake offers a wildly original story brought vividly to life through the bold, evocative artwork of Felipe Kroll. It is a must-read for fans of classic rock, genre mashups, and blood-soaked storytelling.

With its unique blend of Woodstock-era atmosphere and vampire horror, Woodstake stands out as a wild, cult-horror crossover that feels both nostalgic and fiercely original. This gripping graphic novel delivers a character-driven narrative paired with a bold visual style that brings the late '60s to life, complete with period-authentic detail, psychedelic flair, and sharp dark humor. Ideal for readers of horror comics, supernatural thrillers, and music history, Woodstake bridges genres in a way that is fresh, immersive, and unforgettable.

Critical Reviews

DUDE! RIGHT ON! Woodstake is a tense and involving vampire nightmare exploding with fangastic, smart art. I loved this fast-paced page-turner with its refashioning of Dracula's victims and enemies. --Nancy Holder, New York Times Bestselling Author and Horror Writers Association Lifetime Achievement Award

"Woodstake is an epic joyride of heavy duty horror and deadpan humor, a brilliant mash-up that marries the Victorian origins of Stoker's bloodsucker with the acid-fueled Summer of Peace and Love in the muddy murk of Max Yasgur's farm. Felipe Kroll's art brings a rich, saturated noir imagery to Darin Cape's smart-talk and smoldering narrative. This is a graphic novel as savory and sexy as a perfect Bloody Mary. Highly recommended!" --Jay Bonansinga, the New York Times bestselling co-author of Robert Kirkman's The Walking Dead: Rise of the Governor and Stan Lee's The Devil's Quintet: The Armageddon Code

"Imagine hippies vs. vampires in the midst of history's greatest music event and you'll get some idea of the splattery fun to be had in Woodstake. With glowing art by Felipe Kroll and a fun script by Darin S. Cape filled with rock references, Woodstake is a treat for horror, music, and comics fans!" --Lisa Morton, six-time winner of the Bram Stoker Award

A vampire infiltrates Woodstock in this suspenseful, darkly funny reimagining of the Dracula legend. Cape imbues the eerie escapade with rich period ambience and Kroll's sumptuous artwork captures the dark, kaleidoscopic psychedelia of the festival. A Booklife editor's pick. --Booklife

"A free-spirited, blood-thirsty horror story set at history's greatest rock concert. Fans of Woodstock and vampires both will find much to enjoy in this chilling volume." --Kirkus Reviews

"A blood-soaked, action-packed story full of rock-and-roll references with a dash of romance. The photorealistic artwork with layered horror and psychedelic elements adds a unique vibe...readers who love immersive horror will especially enjoy this book." --Cameron Gillespie, Indie Reader
