Healed Enough: A Journey through Complex Trauma and Dissociation
What if healing didn't mean being "fixed," but finally feeling safe enough to live your life?
Many trauma survivors believe healing should eventually make everything feel normal again. But for those living with complex trauma and dissociation, healing often looks very different. It can be slow, confusing, and deeply lonely.
At twenty-two, Chelsey Valeri believed she understood pain. But when life asked more of her than she knew how to give, her body began responding in ways she couldn't explain. Fear, exhaustion, and dissociation slowly took hold, leaving her feeling disconnected from herself and unsure how to move forward.
What followed was not a neat recovery story or a checklist for healing. It was a gradual and honest reckoning with what it means to live after trauma. Complex trauma does not only live in memory. It shapes the nervous system, relationships, identity, and the quiet choices we make every day just to get through.
In Healed Enough, Chelsey Valeri shares her personal journey through trauma recovery with clarity, compassion, and candor. As both a complex trauma survivor and a Licensed Clinical Social Worker trained in trauma therapy, she weaves together lived experience and professional understanding to illuminate what healing can actually look like.
This book does not promise perfect healing. Instead, it offers something far more honest.
Inside you'll discover:
- an intimate look at living with complex trauma and dissociation
- how trauma affects the nervous system, identity, and relationships
- the emotional reality of trauma recovery that many survivors quietly carry
- compassionate insight from both personal experience and trauma therapy practice
- reassurance for those who feel disconnected from their own mind and body
- different way to think about healing, one that allows room for imperfection
You may recognize yourself in this book if you:
- live with the lasting effects of childhood trauma or PTSD
- struggle with dissociation or feeling disconnected from your body
- feel exhausted trying to heal the "right way"
- wonder why recovery sometimes feels harder than expected
- are searching for language that finally describes your experience
Written with warmth, honesty, and deep respect for the complexity of trauma, Healed Enough speaks directly to readers who are learning to live alongside their healing rather than waiting for it to be finished.
Because healing is not a finish line.
And you may already be further along than you think.

Wildflowers and Weeds
We are all connected. Like all growing things, we want to be seen, to be recognized. Not because we are special but because we are ordinary, even common. Wildflowers and Weeds is a collection of real stories with real people. Through real life and authentic experiences, unapologetic life lessons are revealed. In this time of instant gratification, there is a deep soul yearning for something that seems to be slipping away. Wildflowers and Weeds invites us to remember where we came from and the real truth of what we bring with us.
This collection of stories and drawings, like the wildflowers and weeds growing, most times unnoticed, can catch you off guard. In the stories, you might see something you already know, whether from living it or by simply being human.
The wildflowers and weeds are inspired by the author's home nestled in the forested mountains of western North Carolina. These stories are cut from a lifetime of experiences. They offer glimpses of absurd, wide-eyed stupidity laced with a splinter of wisdom. Wildflowers, weeds, and words bear witness to the tenacity of creation that runs through us all.

Language Animal: The Full Shape of the Human Linguistic Capacity
"We have been given a powerful and often uplifting vision of what it is to be truly human." --John Cottingham, The Tablet
In seminal works ranging from Sources of the Self to A Secular Age, Charles Taylor has shown how we create possible ways of being, individually and as a society. The Language Animal examines the foundation of this generative process. For centuries, philosophers have been divided on the nature of language. Rational empiricists--Hobbes, Locke, Condillac, and their heirs--assert that language is a tool to encode and communicate information. Yet this view neglects language's crucial role in shaping the thought it expresses. Taylor argues that language does not merely describe; it constitutes meaning. Nor is linguistic capacity innately possessed. We learn language from others, and our individual selves emerge from the conversation. Taylor expands the thinking of the German Romantics Hamann, Herder, and Humboldt into a theory of linguistic holism. Language is intellectual, but it is also enacted in artistic portrayals, gestures, metaphors, tones of voice, and the shifts of emphasis and attitude that accompany speech. Language recognizes no boundary between mind and body. In illuminating the full capacity of the language animal, Taylor sheds light on the very question of what it is to be human. -
Evergreen Conservatory
Welcome back to Evergreen Academy, the secret college for Magical Botanists.
Ever since enrolling at Evergreen Academy last year, I have struggled to belong in the elite world of plant magic and affinity powers. And thanks to a curse tied to a decision I made on the spring equinox, I'm further from fitting in than ever.
When I'm invited to join a mission to uncover a long-lost magical artifact, it feels like my chance to prove myself-and help protect the academy, which appears to be under threat by the increasingly present Magical Botanical Board of Regents.
As the new academic year unfolds, I'm navigating an unexpected field studies assignment, the mysteries of my elusive powers, and my growing feelings for my impossibly attractive and possibly off-limits tutor, Callan Rhodes.
But when the mission to find the artifact takes us beyond the safety of the academy's verdant shield, I realize the stakes may be greater than I imagined. Can we succeed in recovering the artifact, or are we about to unearth more than we bargained for?

Growth: A History and a Reckoning
One of Barack Obama's 10 Favorite Books of the Year
A vivid account of the past, present, and future of economic growth, showing how and why we must continue to pursue it while responding to the challenges it creates. Over the past two centuries, economic growth has freed billions from the struggle for subsistence. Yet prosperity has come at a price: environmental destruction, desolation of local cultures, the emergence of vast inequalities. Many respond that now is the time to shrink our economic footprint. But Daniel Susskind argues that such "degrowth" would be folly. Instead, we must keep growth but redirect it, making it better reflect our values. Growth: A History and a Reckoning shows how policymaking in the second half of the twentieth century came to revolve around a single-minded quest for greater GDP. The growth obsession has been met with the assertion that "we cannot have infinite growth on a finite planet." Susskind shows, though, that growth is a product not of resource exploitation but of new ideas. In that sense, growth really can be infinite. Still, he says, critics are right to insist that we can no longer focus on upsides alone. We must confront tradeoffs: societies will have to deliberately pursue less growth for the sake of other goals. These will be moral decisions, not simply economic ones, demanding the engagement not just of politicians and experts but of all citizens.

Other Great Game: The Opening of Korea and the Birth of Modern East Asia
Winner of the Duke of Wellington Medal for Military History, this dramatic new account of the dawn of modern East Asia places Korea at the center of a transformed world order wrought by imperial greed and devastating wars.
In the nineteenth century, Russia participated in two "great games." One, well known, pitted the tsar's empire against Britain in Central Asia. The other, hitherto unrecognized, saw Russia, China, and Japan vying for domination of Korea. This eye-opening account argues that the contest over Korea set the course for the future of the global order. After centuries of isolation, Korea became a prize in the Sino-Japanese War at the close of the nineteenth century and the Russo-Japanese War at the beginning of the twentieth. Japan's victories not only gained the Meiji regime a colony but also dislodged Imperial China from regional supremacy. As the fate of the declining tsarist empire was sealed by its surprising military defeat, the United States and Britain sized up the new Japanese challenger. A vivid story of two geopolitical earthquakes sharing Korea as their epicenter, The Other Great Game rewrites the script of twentieth-century rivalry in the Pacific and enriches our understanding of contemporary global affairs, from the origins of Korea's bifurcated identity--a legacy of internal politics amid the imperial squabble--to China's irredentist ambitions and Russia's nostalgic dreams of recovering great-power status. -

Underdog: Against All Odds, The Fight For Justice
UNDERDOG is the memoir of one of the youngest passengers on the MS St. Louis, escaping Nazi Germany to Holland and eventually settling in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Against All Odds, Fighting for Justice is the story of a human rights lawyer representing all the prominent civil rights leaders in Milwaukee during the 1960s and decades thereafter.
The world's worst serial murderer, Jeffrey Dahmer, writing from Columbia Correctional Institution on February 4, 1994, had this to say about Thomas Jacobson's efforts to make him pay for his gruesome slaughter of seventeen victims.
Dear Mr. Jacobson,
Congratulations are in order. Because of your laziness, you've single-handedly ruined the proposed deal we had on the table. You were aware from the beginning that in order for the deal to be accepted, we wanted all 17 families to benefit from it.
Now I heard that you wanted to waste more of your client's money by suing my dad - what a foolish shyster you are! If you insist on continuing to lead your clients down the garden path, chasing after "willow the wisps," then so be it. Let me assure you that your efforts will fail. You're simply too incompetent to handle something like that.
I'll be writing to your clients and letting them know that you're nothing but an incompetent "twit" who is only interested in "using" them.
Sincerely, Jeff
Jacobson obtained from Dahmer one-half million dollars for eleven of the victim families. The book follows the life of accomplished Milwaukee Civil Rights Lawyer Thomas M. Jacobson from his escape from Nazi Germany, his journey to becoming a nationally recognized civil rights lawyer, to seeking justice in one of the nations highest profile cases in the 1980s: Serial Killer Jeffrey Dahmer.

Smothered By Riches
Smothered by Riches is the story of a systematic and disciplined effort on the part of an extremely wealthy group of Americans, to do several things. One, is to see that ruling the United States is done according to principles and beliefs that benefits their class and interests. They are a largely invisible group, present in America from its earliest days, but America's post-WWII victory delivered into their hands enormous resources. These have been amplified by their anti-democratic impulses and belief that "they" as a group, are "the right sort" to lead and bend the populace (which they tend to regard as an unlettered mob) to their will.
They coalesced recently in opposition to Franklin Delano Roosevelt's New Deal and have never weakened their efforts to defeat its democratic and universal faith in working people. This aspect of the story begins with a letter written by Lewis Powell to the US Chamber of Commerce, decrying the failure of free enterprise to stand up for itself against veins of liberalism swelling the country as unpopular wars; the rights of minorities and women, the demands of the environmental movement began compelling citizens to behave in ways that flouted the values of the ruling elites.
Funded by young billionaires they went on to construct a 65-year-long disciplined assault on liberalism, the unshapely fruit of which terminated in the second election of Donald Trump to the Presidency. It is easier to understand the damage he has been able to wreak on our institutions when we understood that the organizing principle of American values is often the accumulation of riches rather than a true understanding of wealth. Where we are today, is no accident. The failure of successive generations to protect our political system from the overwhelming power of money has brought us to this pass.
