Description

Dive into the hive to uncover the intriguing and hidden lives of bees in this first title of a new beautifully illustrated nonfiction series.

Bees are incredible! There are so many different kinds found all over the world, from honeybees to diggers, leafcutters, and even meat-eating vulture bees.

Discover how a bee's eyes see the world in a unique way, how bees pollinate plants, how they communicate with a waggle dance, and how without bees, the world would be a very different (and much less wonderful) place.

  • The first in a new series of illustrated single-subject STE(A)M books for children aged 7-10, exploring some of the universe's most fascinating subjects. Published in collaboration with the University of Cambridge and the Cambridge Botanic Garden.
  • About the Author

Ben Hoare (Author) is a wildlife writer who still can't quite believe that being a nature nerd is what he gets to do for a living. After studying at the University of Cambridge, he became an editor of children's nonfiction, then worked at BBC Wildlife Magazine, where he went in search of everything from leafcutter ants to whale sharks. Now a full-time writer, he lives in Somerset, England.

Nina Chakrabarti (Illustrator) grew up in Kolkata, India, and moved to the United Kingdom in her teens. She has written and illustrated several books for children, taking inspiration from both the extraordinary and the often overlooked. She lives and works in Hastings, on the south coast of England.

    Critical Reviews

"In addition to the attention it pays to global bee diversity, this effort stands out for its explicit and accurate ...assurance that 'honeybees are not in trouble, because beekeepers look after them, ' and its eminently child-friendly suggestions for helping wild bees... An effective presentation of a charismatic creature."
    --Kirkus Reviews

"This cheerful picture book features busy two-page chapters highlighting aspects of everyday bee life, offering engaging vistas that go beyond basic definitions and facts ... This makes a great addition to most STEM collections."

    --Kathleen McBroom, Booklist
