About the Author

Kevin Parr is a writer, fisherman, and amateur naturalist. He is a regular contributor and podcast host for Countryfile magazine and is deputy editor for Fallons Angler. He has also written for the Telegraph, the Independent, Caught By the River, Birdwatching magazine, Anglers Mail and The Idler. His books include The Quiet Moon, Rivers Run, The Idle Angler, and the black comedyThe Twitch. Parr lives in West Dorset with his wife and a colony of grass snakes a few strides from his garden gate. Anja Susanj is a Slavic illustrator from coastal Croatia, where she runs a one-woman illustration studio called the Drawing Fish. She graduated from University of the Arts London, Camberwell College. She mostly works in children's publishing and editorial illustration and has illustrated eleven books for children so far, both fiction and nonfiction. Her work tends to be quite conceptual in both theme and composition, with a lot of bold colors and black lines. Susanj is very detail-oriented in her work and draws inspiration from nature and folklore, having illustrated books in both subjects. She is interested in whimsical characters and peculiar stories, especially Slavic lore.

Critical Reviews

"A simple celebration of the joys of forests and woodlands, suitably accompanied by drawings that reflect an old-world, even otherworldly vibe...a lovely addition to STEAM collections."

-- "Booklist"

"Accompanying this plethora of well-curated facts and traditional knowledge are Susanj's bright double-page spreads filled with illustrated text boxes and detailed borders, accenting scientific verisimilitude with touches of magic and whimsy. A successful integration of information and illustration that will appeal broadly."
